There are a number of planned giving methods available to you as a donor. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to make a more significant gift than you ever thought possible, experiencing significant tax savings, earn a life income, or even leave your beneficiaries more than you might have been able to otherwise. Charitable remainder trusts can be established to provide you and another person income for life, and then to provide a deferred gift of the remaining assets to a charity such as Catholic Charities Inc. Depending on the type of trust established, you would be entitled to an income tax or estate tax deduction. For a copy of our Free Will Worksheet, email Michael Thomas.
Naming Catholic Charities as the owners and sole beneficiary of an insurance policy can be a way to make a substantial gift over the course of time and capitalize on possible tax benefits.
Individuals who contribute specific assets such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds and other financial instruments, which may have increased in value since purchase date and have been held for no less than one year, can avoid any capital gains tax by donating these appreciated securities. Federal tax liability may be reduced.
Many companies will match their employees’ contributions to non-profits. Some companies also contribute to charities where their employees volunteer. Even if you are retired, work part-time or are the spouse of an employee, you might be able to increase your contributions through your employer. Contact your Human Resources Department to obtain a matching gift form. Fill out the employee portion and mail the form to Catholic Charities. More of our needy clients will benefit because of your matching gift.
Ways to Give
Mississippi continues to lead the way in charitable giving, giving more money per capita to charitable causes than any other state in the United States. Catholic Charities is blessed to have donors that believe in our mission. It is heartwarming to know that by providing help we are all creating hope for those in need.
